That photo in the header? That's Ian MacNairn in the sweltering Atlas Range of Morocco.
Romantic partners took their one man tent and traversed the Atlas Range in Morocco in sweltering, desert-like conditions. They share their lived experiences about the challenges of the traverse, the unique cultural customs, and the extremely kind hospitality they encountered during their trek throughout this Muslim country. These are true stories featuring real people.

Michelle Landry: A Fat Sack of Nuts
In any culture you can recognize a person in need. ~Michelle talking about the time on their Atlas Range Traverse in Morocco when it was over 120 degrees, they had ran out of water, and their communication with local villagers was limited to hand gestures due to a language barrier.

Ian MacNairn: explorer, writer, anthropologist and student of medicine
Ian’s also an ultra runner, and a pretty successful one because he’s sponsored by The North Face. You know what else is really impressive about Ian? He has Type I diabetes and he completed this Morocco trip having to carry along his insulin... and keep it cold...which of course presented a challenge in the temps over 40 C or 100F. With some new technology and creative thinking, he was able to pull that off!
Ian’s a smart cookie so it’s no surprise I guess. He’s currently a PhD/MD candidate at the University of Calgary and he has recently been doing ethnographic research focusing on exploring trail and ultrarunning community around the world. If you want to learn more about what he’s creating, he’s got a nice website explaining it. Go to www.theultraculture.com.

Your podcast quickly became my favorite podcast. It fills a niche that is missing in the market of outdoor adventure.
