Dale Kidd: Hebgen Lake Fly Fishing in Montana
Successful Blind Fly Fisherman, Business Owner - Nibbles & Bytes

Dale lost his eyesight in October of 1993 after having back surgery. Just one week earlier he was on a weeklong fishing trip on the headwaters of the San Juan River with his old fishing buddy, and their 2 dogs - his friend's Aussie Blue and Dale's black lab, Bo. He remembers that the fishing trip was a good one saying that the "fish were just waiting for us all week," and they were both ready to catch and return them to the river.
Dale has particularly fond memories of the area because, he drove right past it on the day he took himself to the hospital for surgery and he remembers the sight of the San Juan River Headwaters as his last.
A couple of years after Dale's surgery and losing his eyesight, he had learned how to do most of the things he already knew how to do with sight, but now without sight. This included fly fishing, cooking, rowing a drift boat and wading in chest high river water.
Just 3 years after losing his eyesight, Dale decided to combine his love of fly fish and his new need of contacting the world through the artificial voice from a computer, and he started the business called Nibbles & Bytes. The company is designed to assist people with assistive technology for several disabilities and to outfit the North Platte River. Dale has since shut down the outfitting part of the business but the assistive technology side of Nibbles & Bytes just celebrated twenty-one years of serving the visually impaired and blind of Wyoming.
Hebgen Lake is in Montana and is listed on the Bivy app. Dale has shared directions to his favorite campsite with us. Email us if you'd like them.
