Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) at a glance
Thru hikers get their information from a handful of resources:
- Pacific Crest Trail Association (PCTA)
- The free app from Halfmile that maps the entire PCT. Halfmile also has printed maps of the entire PCT.
- The mapping app with more bells and whistles, GutHook
- Get the resupply spreadsheet that Tim created to help plan our boxes and town stops. On this spreadsheet you'll find details about
- Trail Mile #
- Town Name
- Source (mail or grocery)
- Alternate stops or options for resupply
- Other info we found important
- Mileage between resupply points and anticipated days of food needed
Ben Oberhand: The Worst 24 Hours of the PCT
Ben says he's becoming a better risk taker, meaning the risks he takes are indeed risky, but without any risk, he would go nowhere. He was raised in Los Angeles, and has since lived in Santa Cruz, Wrangel Island Alaska, and most recently Moab Utah.
In addition to hiking long trails, Ben has his own radio show, "Return to Indie Mountain" which airs every Friday at 9 a.m. MST on Moab's awesome local radio station KZMU. Read more about Ben's PCT on his blog.
Ben backpacked the PCT over a period of 2 years:
Ben is the Gorilla Glue Gnar Award Winner. The history of this award: When our folding Oru Kayak got hole punched through the side after hitting a beached log, we fixed it by taping and gluing it shut then were able to paddle down the Hudson River for another 100+ miles. When we contacted Gorilla Glue to say thanks, they sent us a bunch of product and we decided to give that product away to our storytellers whose story had the highest gnar factor. Ben's definitely earned this award. |
