Whereas the idea of riding your bicycle from Alaska to Argentina is a wild idea, and let me tell you, the deed is actually much, much more wild than the idea. The climber in me took over and... Alaska - Denali, North America’s highest peak, Argentina - Aconcagua, South America’s highest peak. And so the wheels started turning, and before I knew it, I was telling people I was going to be climbing the highest peak on each continent and then getting on my bicycle to ride the distance between. ~ Sam Skrocke about his transcontinental bike trip from Alaska to Argentina. |

Tom Zimmerman's Adventure Story
In this episode, Tom shares his overview story...a story of stories. He found some of the best places to go backpacking, skiing, and climbing in the USA and Canada. But we didn’t get to hear about any one of those stories really. All those micro events combined together to one big self discovery and going deep into just one of those events wouldn’t have left us with the lesson that this adventure taught Tom.
Tom highlighted the struggles he faced when he consciously decided to climb out from underneath the corporate ladder and pursue a massive adventure, and I know that’s something that a lot of our listeners who are attempting to inch toward more adventurous lifestyles experience on the daily.
Tom did this with the help of his brother, Rob, who is also a professional coach at Inner Compass Coaching. Rob was featured in the Boldly Went podcast Episode 57. Learn more about him there.
When Tom took the leap, he found the value of his friends and family and loneliness, and how each step was one tiny trust fall that insidiously led him into homelessness, and that, when looking back, all those little steps combined into one... giant... life change. In this story he shares with us the perspective that he gained …. he didn’t lose anything despite having taken the risk.
