Adventure Quote
Sam you’ve gotta keep moving. Come down here. As I slowly made my way to him, he was coiling up the rope and when I got down there, he attached one end of the rope to me and he held it taut behind him using a method called short roping to help me keep my balance. Now on top of the sort of fear I was feeling, I was overcome by a sort of shame of ‘what am I doing here that I can’t keep it together that I have to be short roped down this mountain?’ ~ Samantha Larson describing her Cho Oyu summit climbing experience after witnessing a man fall

Brett Farrell's Adventure Story: Hike Ecuador
Next up is Brett Farrell, originally from upstate NY. He moved to Portland, OR after a year long backpacking trip around the world. He just finished a build out on a campervan and is excited to start traveling around the US.
If you’re a long time listener of the Boldly Went podcast you’ll know Brett from some interviews we did with him featuring his trail running apparel business, Territory Run Co., a company whose support has been extremely important to the ongoing development of this Boldly Went production.
Brett's story in this episode is a raw and honest account of what it really means to go into a community, in this case in Ecuador, with the intent of helping through volunteering his time. As a result he was blindsided by his own privilege which was, as he reflected, the true miracle of the trip.

Adventure Quote
We look out at the view around us, and I look at Manuel, and I realized that we have come from such different paths, and I don’t think he sees adventure in the same way that I do because I have grown up around all these adventure stories of friends who have told me they’ve gone to places like Ecuador who have given me the ideas and the confidence to do something like this. And the only stories he will most likely hear are the ones of leaving town to go find work in the city or outside of Ecuador. And I couldn’t help but think how ungrateful I was for complaining about my own experience in this town and how my dream didn’t go as I planned. ~ Brett Farrell's Ecuador Hike miracle |
