This week's featured adventure stories
Gene Ryan's Adventure Story: Unexpected DangerGene joined us in Tacoma, WA. When we asked how he wanted to be introduced, he said:
"I'm not sure what you mean by how to be introduced. I don't know another way other than Gene Ryan. My Facebook is Gene Ryan and Instagram is @genecryan.” We thought that was pretty hilarious. Gene is more of a biker than a runner, and his story reinforces why. Andrew Himes' Adventure Story: Flying Body PartsAs his story illustrates this week, Andrew has lived a remarkable life. Along with being an early innovator in the sport of joggling, he was a true tech pioneer. He was founding editor of MacTech, the leading Apple technology journal, then co-founded the Microsoft Developer Network. He led the first web development project at Microsoft, and then led Microsoft's Platform Web Team.
After leaving Microsoft, he founded Project Alchemy, an NGO focused on elevating the technology expertise focused on elevating the technology expertise and effectiveness of grassroots social justice advocates. He is convinced that climate change is the signal challenge of our time, he has founded or partnered in a series of startups, and is inspired by the conviction that business and business leaders can be a force for positive change. He is currently a partner in Carbon Innovations, a business consultancy. Because why not, he also produced the feature length documentary film Voices in Wartime, and he is the author of the book The Sword of the Lord: The Roots of Fundamentalism in an American Family. He also has his own podcast! Reversing Climate Change Podcast https://goo.gl/wxVQPN Edward Morris' Adventure Story: To Walk the NightEdward Morris is the author of the sci-fi/horror novel There Was a Crooked Man among many other shorter works. His adventure story in this episode reflects his background as a writer and creates an evocative picture of a backpacking trip in the North Umpqua gone wrong due to relationship struggles.
He is also the curator of Portland's The Hour that Stretches, an eclectic monthly event series that features spoken word artists of all types. Dean Burke's Adventure Story: SkatingDean Burke is a perennial favorite at Boldly Went. His stories have been featured in two previous episodes:
