That photo in the header? I snapped that from my campsite on the beach in Cahuita, Costa Rica.

Viv Smith and Erik Nachtrieb: 1iOpen Productions
Boldly Went is over the moon excited that these two award winning adventure filmmakers stumbled across our event and came out to share their stories. I really like watching their YouTube Channel to see what they are up to, and, hint, it's always something cray. zee. For example, their recent filmmaking in China where they filmed a hunt, ate horse meat, and gave us all captivating photos of horses running through snowfields packing their gear and crew and set. Their stories range from silly, like when Viv posted a photo of Erik walking the beach in Australia in his short shorts asking for comment, to culturally enlightening and no matter the story being told, as long as Viv and Erik are in the shot you'll see them playing verbal joust, as heard in this episode.
Erik was featured in Episode 3 of the Boldly Went podcast too, with a story about how he was trying to take up Chinese Wrestling.

Be Like Timo: Save a dolphin
There are many accounts online about Dolphins saving humans but it's a lot harder to find stories about how humans save dolphins in the wild. Did you know 10 dolphin species are on the brink of extinction?
Although it's unlikely that you'll have the opportunity to swim a dolphin out from shore to save it's life, there's still lots you can do to save dolphins and many other sea creatures lives. The leading causes of dolphin death are entanglement from sea trash, warming oceans, habitat loss (dams, boat traffic, waterfront development), noise and chemical pollution. Watch this video and think about how you can be more like Timo and save some dolphins.

Go to Soldier Meadows
When you hear someone say 'don't tell your friends' about a really good outdoor spot, your ears perk up, don't they? Mine do!
Soldier Meadows is in Northern Nevada, not far from the Black Rock Desert, and is part of the Black Rock High Rock Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area. The Lassen/Applegate pioneer trail went through here in the 1850s and has been largely untouched since. When you go there today, you can still see parts of the trail.
People go to this BLM managed recreation site to bathe in the extensive network of remote, natural hot springs.

OKT/FKT (dumb) idea: Applegate-Lassen Trail
We would never recommend anyone do something as stupid and dangerous as crossing a barren desert, like all those PCT hikers who cross the Mojave every year, but we think some bold adventurer is going to be interested in this. In the 1850's emigrants used the trail when they were migrating to Northern California during the Gold Rush Gold mines but no one knows there time, and there's nothing on the FKT leaderboard.
