Judges:
Erik Nachtrieb and Vivienne Smith - Award Winning Executive Producers and Directors at adventure film production company - 1iOpen Productions. They’ve shared some of their filming adventures at two Boldly Went Seattle events and those stories are featured in the Boldly Went Podcast including encounters with the Belize Defense Force, Ep. 26 “Providing Aid” and wrestling Kazakhs, Ep. 3 “Chinese Wrestlers, PCT Trail Magic, and Shredding in Iran.”
Joel Ballezza - Storyteller, Marketer and Filmmaker. Joel shared at the first ever Boldly Went Show in 2017 when he recounted his impromptu tour of Iceland in the winter. You can listen to it in the Boldly Went podcast "Ep. 2 Escapades in Pakistan, England, and Iceland." When he isn't running trails around Seattle or climbing peaks, Joel enjoys making films under the moniker The Wild Ones. He recently produced a 17-minute feature, "Dick's RASH", telling the story of a local adventurer's solo, unsupported climb and circumnavigation of four NW stratovolcanoes.
Angel and Tim Mathis - Adventure Instigators at Boldly Went working to give you the space to share your intriguing, inspiring, and impactful stories through live events, podcasts, and by creating meaningful connections between outdoors enthusiasts and athletes everywhere so that we can all have better adventures and trips when we go traveling or try something new. Boldly Went has never been featured in anything that Viv and Erik have ever made, and they are award winners of nothing. You can listen to Angel each week hosting the Boldly Went podcast and get to know Tim by reading the Boldly Went weekly blog with our best tips about creating a life full of adventure.
Entry Closes: 28 February 2018
Rules:
- Must be 1 minute - no more, no less!
- Tell an adventure story visually and auditorily. Use all the tools available to filmmakers, of course you can shoot it on your iphone!
- Visually: Film your adventure or use footage from a past adventure. Films with still photos not accepted.
- Auditorily: Verbally tell the story.
- You can retell a story that’s happened with video overlaid, re-enact a story, or perhaps you had the cameras rolling during an adventure.
- The winner will be chosen first and foremost for their story. We understand not everyone is a filmmaker but we will take into account a good production. This will include:
- Clean audio (i.e. can we hear the dialogue? Music isn’t too loud over the talking.)
- Steady and focused vision (i.e. try not to move the camera too much and check that your subject is in focus.)
- For your video to be published on YouTube you must use music you have license to. Use the YouTube Audio Library if you’re not sure: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music
- Upload your film to YouTube and email us the link- boldlywentadventures@gmail.com
- The winning film will be uploaded to The Crew and Boldly Went YouTube channels and promoted on all 1iOpen and Boldly Went Social Media platforms.
- All competition participants allow their 1 minute submitted film, whether a selected winner or not, to be used for reasonable promotional use by Boldly Went and 1iOpen Productions. Copyright remains with the photographer/videographer and credit will be given where required.
